Aquarium people are spoiled. They can keep their tanks cool or warm as needed, control the lighting, control the food, and everything else that enters the water, and there’s no marauding predators sneaking around in the dead of night hunting their precious little Nemo. In the pond world, we have quite a different story.

We have no control over anything. We are subject to high winds that seem to seek to throw every leaf and branch and ALL the dust and dirt from the neighborhood in the pond. Torrential downpours fill the pond with mud and other land debris that the rain collects from the bowels of the earth. We get winter freezes so hard that the ice can be two feet thick, followed by summers so hot and humid that we can’t see the water for the algae. And then there’s the predators, herons, egrets, bear, raccoons, even the occasional dog or cat!

We are at the mercy of all the elements, and every critter that has designs on a sushi dinner. In the pond world, we fight Mother Nature so hard that when we find something to help make our life easier, we have to shout it to the heavens above!
